Thane: Nearly six years after a woman was targeted in a purse-snatching attempt while travelling in an autorickshaw, a Thane court convicted a 19-year-old youth and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment.Chief Judicial Magistrate Abhijeet V Kulkarni on Monday convicted Shreyash alias “Body” Sujit Padval, a resident of Anand Nagar in Kopri, for attempting to commit robbery. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on the accused.According to the prosecution, the incident took place on the evening of Jan 21, 2020, on the Mumbai-Nashik highway near Kopri bridge in Thane (E). The complainant, auto driver Rakesh Lalta Yadav, with the help of another passer-by, managed to catch hold of the youth while he was trying to pull away the purse. During the scuffle, the purse fell to the ground, and the accused was restrained on the spot.Traffic police personnel who were present nearby rushed to the spot after noticing the commotion and took the accused into custody.
