Laila Majnu scores big during re-release: ‘People have spoken in God’s voice’: Sajid Ali- Exclusive | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Imtiaz Ali’s brother Sajid Ali made a very confident debut six years ago, with Laila Majnu starring Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwary. However, the film sank without a trace, but in 2024 where many films were not releasing, and producers saw an opportunity to re-release their old films, Laila Majnu was back in the theaters once again. During its first run, the film was barely able to cross the Rs 3 crore mark, as its journey was cut short at Rs 2.70 crore mark. However, during its re-release, the film had a successful run, and went on to make nearly Rs 9 crore, three times more than its first run. It’s successful run has brought happiness to all the people attached to the film.

In an exclusive interview with ETimes, director Sajid Ali opens up about being successful a second time around. He says, “ First time producers put in money, and got us a good release, and all the money spent didn’t result in anything . The second time we didn’t even spend a single rupee and whatever has happened is very organic, and it feels people have spoken in God’s voice . I truly feel humbled, I’m still not able to decipher the reasons for it, but im not complaining .”
“Any director sets out to make the best film they can, so did I . I believed in the film, but it didn’t work and it crushes your confidence ….it took me time to come out of it, but the kind of response we are getting now, it fills one up with confidence. Also people around you take confidence in you, so now if you want to narrate a story, there will be two more people willing to hear it … so success will open the doors, but it is only talent that will make you go through those doors,” he added.
