South Korean actors Jung Ho Yeon and Lee Dong Hwi have officially parted ways after nearly a decade together.
On November 26, media outlet Soompi reported that the couple, ended their relationship after spending over 9 years together. The two reportedly began dating in 2015 and publicly confirmed their relationship a year later, in 2016.
Now, according to the latest reports, representatives of both actors have confirmed the split. In a statement to Koreaboo, Jung Ho Yeon’s agency has since confirmed, “It is correct that Jung Ho Yeon and Lee Dong Hwi have broken up. They have decided to go back to being good colleagues.”
Jung Ho Yeon, shot to international stardom for her breakout role in ‘Squid Game’. Lee Dong Hwi, best recognised for his performance in ‘Reply 1988’, were admired by fans for their supportive and low-profile relationship.
Lee Dong Hwi previously made headlines when he openly discussed his relationship with Jung Ho-yeon on various variety shows, and even boasted about the ‘Suqid Game’ star being his ‘best friend’ while chatting with a taxi driver.
While the reason for their split has not been disclosed, the pair decision to remain good friends has given fans something to be hopeful about.
Meanwhile, on the work front, rumours are rife that Jung Ho-yeon may be back for season two of ‘Squid Game’ after creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, hinted that that he would consider bringing Jung back as a twin.
Season 2 of Squid Game will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
