Rohit Shetty says Dharmendra’s scene with Lord Shiva idol in ‘Sholay’ can’t be made today: ‘We don’t know what people…’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Rohit Shetty’s ‘Singham Again‘ starring Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Deepika Padukone and Arjun Kapoor was like a modern-day Ramayana in the world of ‘Singham’. In the film, while Ajay and Kareena’s characters had references from Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, Arjun’s character was largely based on Raavan. In a recent interview, Rohit Shetty has opened up on the ‘Ramayana’ references in the movie.
Shetty opened up to Ranveer Allahbadia in his podcast about how one has to be very careful today about using such themes or references in movies as it might just offend someone. He further said, “We won’t know what people might object to or what would make them feel bad. There is a scene in Sholay where Dharmendra stands behind a Lord Shiva idol and talks pretending to be god. We can’t do such a scene today.”
Apart from religious references, Shetty also spoke about how people may take offence to other things like depiction of a disability or gender biases. He added, “If I were to make the (Golmaal) movies today, I will get trolled saying I am making fun of stammering. That’s the difference (between then and now). Even if that’s not the intention… he is one among the heroes in the film. Now we are very scared and judgmental. We have to constantly speculate as to if people will get offended about something or not. The Golmaal movies have a cult following now and we are not laughing at that person but the situations he has found himself in. Nonetheless, if the movie were to release today, I would definitely face trolling.”
Ajay agreed to him. Rohit and Ajay have confirmed that they are going to begin with the next installment of ‘Golmaal’ soon.
