When Zeenat Aman revealed her kids were turned against her after she left husband Mazhar Khan: ‘After he died, I wasn’t allowed to…’ | – Times of India


Raised by a single mother and losing her father at 13, Zeenat Aman didn’t have a model of a healthy marriage. The actress married Mazhar Khan in 1985, after ending her abusive marriage with Sanjay Khan. However, the relationship too soured, and she walked out after 12 years.
In an interview with Simi Garewal, Zeenat opened up about why she left her second husband, Mazhar. She explained that he stopped helping himself and was causing further harm to his life, which became unbearable for her. She couldn’t stay and watch him self-destruct.
Zeenat explained that her second husband, Mazhar Khan, became addicted to painkillers, taking as many as seven a day. Despite warnings from the doctor about the potential damage to his kidneys, and pleas from their children and her, he refused to change. This led to her decision to leave him.The veteran star shared that it took her a long time to leave Mazhar Khan, despite still caring for him. She had fought many of his battles, but ultimately, for her own well-being, she had to make the difficult choice to walk away. After their separation, his kidneys failed due to his addiction.
After leaving her marriage, Zeenat Aman faced severe consequences. Her children were turned against her, and Mazhar’s family took all his assets after his death, leaving her with nothing. She revealed that his mother and sister took all of his belongings, leaving her without any inheritance.

In the interview, Zeenat Aman shared that after her divorce, Mazhar’s family punished her by preventing her from paying her last respects to him. She believed they took this action to retaliate against her for leaving the marriage. This added another layer of emotional distress to an already difficult situation.
During the first year of their marriage, Mazhar Khan had an affair, but Zeenat Aman, pregnant at the time, chose to stay. She had plans to separate when their child turned five, but Mazhar fell ill and took five years to recover. Sadly, a year after his recovery, he passed away due to his addiction.
