Javed Akhtar reveals Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar consider his lines outdated: ‘My kids have no consideration’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar are one of the most sought-after screenwriting duos in Bollywood. They secured a significant place in audiences’ hearts with films like ‘Sholay’, ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Deewar’, and many more. In addition to screenwriting, Javed has also written lyrics for numerous films. Recently, he shared that his children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar, called his writing style ‘outdated.’ He humorously mentioned that Zoya once made him write dialogues for a dog in ‘Dil Dhadakne Do‘.
In a recent episode of Chill Sesh, Akhtar discussed his professional relationship with his children, Farhan and Zoya. He shared that while others may hesitate to express their opinions due to his seniority, his children are comfortable being candid with him. He explained that actor Farhan quietly rejects his lines, while filmmaker Zoya is more assertive and engages in debates with him. ‘My kids have no consideration, particularly Zoya. Farhan doesn’t argue; he simply rejects my lines. But Zoya engages in fights with me,’ he said.

In the same interview, Javed discussed the language and cultural differences he faces when collaborating with Farhan and Zoya in filmmaking. He highlighted that their primary language is English, while his is Urdu or Hindustani, giving him a deeper understanding of certain cultural nuances. However, he noted that his input is sometimes seen as too traditional or outdated by his children. Over the past 25 years, Javed has only written the script for Farhan’s film ‘Lakshya‘ and contributed a few dialogues for Zoya’s ‘Luck By Chance’. After that, she didn’t seek his input again.
Javed humorously recalled his role in Zoya Akhtar’s film ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, where he was asked to write only the dog’s dialogues. Zoya told him that no one could capture a dog’s thoughts better than her father. ‘Zoya asked me to write the dog’s dialogues and nothing more. She said, “My father will write the dialogues; nobody can capture a dog’s thoughts better than he can,” he added.
