Although Ajay and Kajol have been a real-life couple since the 1990s, they have not been able to rival the on-screen chemistry of Kajol and SRK, who have given some of the most memorable films in Bollywood, namely, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge‘ and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. It is said that his refusal was based on the fear of hurting the fan fraternity, which thought Kajol was made for SRK, especially after the spate of hits they had delivered.
As per a report in India Forums, SRK said, “First, I didn’t really care about them because people just do stupid stuff, but when I approached Kajol, Ajay told me all about it, so I told him about this, the emails my wife got.” The report further said, “Ajay and Shahrukh were quite upset about this, but now things seem to be working out. Kajol may not work with him again.”
Shah Rukh Khan, quite open himself, is said to have responded by stating that “people do stupid things,” although, as usual, he was gracious in public. Time eventually passed and both actors moved on from the alleged affair. Professionally, there was no outward friction between the actors, including Kajol continuing to collaborate with the two different men, so long as they were not representing direct competition in projects, and the three continue in good stead with each other within the broader film fraternity.
