“Rashtrapatni” Row: Sonia Gandhi Walks Across To Speak To Smriti Irani

In the middle of a huge row in Lok Sabha over Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury calling President Droupadi Murmu “Rashtrapatni”, Congress president Sonia Gandhi walked across the house to speak to Union Minister Smriti Irani, who had demanded her apology.

The dramatic scenes took place as BJP MPs raised slogans against Sonia Gandhi.

“Sonia Gandhi, apologise,” Smriti Irani said in the house, as members of the ruling BJP held up placards.

“Sonia Gandhi, you sanctioned the humiliation of Droupadi Murmu. Sonia ji sanctioned humiliation of a woman in the highest constitutional post,” the Union Minister said.

Outside the house, asked whether Mr Chowdhury would apologise, Sonia Gandhi told NDTV: “He has already apologized.”
